Secondly, the media in a water treatment device helps reduce contaminants in your drinking water when contaminants are trapped in the filter pores or when they adhere to the surface of the media. The filter pores have limited capacity to allow water to pass through them. So, as more water is used the pores can become clogged with the contaminants, or it may accumulate too much on the media surface.

If the filter is not replaced according to manufacturer’s recommendations, the contaminants on the media surface could become some large that it will eventually fall off and contaminate the water being filtered. In some cases, it may even be necessary to change your filter cartridges more frequently due to the quality of your water.

The Dangers of Natural and Man Made Radiation

Radiation has been a concern of individuals and governments since the bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki in World War 2, and there have been many safety measures taken to prevent it from killing people. Despite their concern, nuclear radiation is only one part of the problem. It is not the only form of radiation that you need to be concerned about.

Natural Sources of Radiation

Aside from the man made causes of radiation, there are a number of natural causes of radiation that can be a serious threat. Radon is one of the main forms of natural radiation, and it is considered second only to smoking as a main cause of lung cancer. Radon is normally found in soil, but it can be found nearly everywhere. There are a number of radioactive elements in the ground beneath our feet and homes, and the radioactive elements decay and turn into radon gas. This radon gas tends to seep through the ground and into homes, and they can be a serious health concern for many people.

There is a good deal of radiation in outer space, such as gamma rays and charged particles. The atmosphere around earth filters out most of the radiation, but there is still a good amount that makes it through. The altitude of a region determines how much cosmic radiation affects the residents. For instance, you are exposed to cosmic radiation when you fly.

Man made Radiation

Man has learned how to harness the power of electricity, X-rays, and a number of other forms of energy, including atomic energy. While not all of the following forms of man made radiation will be harmful in small quantities, it is important that you are made aware in order to avoid as much as you can.

Medical Radiation

There have been no scientific studies done by an independent panel of unbiased scientists to prove these machines are safe. These devices concentrate radiation on the skin and the underlying tissue and is not evenly distributed throughout the body. Basically, many doctors and scientists agree that there is a high risk of cancers and other problems as a result of using these scanners.


Microwaves have been proven to be one of the most common sources of radiation in the world, due to the fact that a large number of households in the world own and operate a microwave. Microwaves use heat to increase the internal temperature of food by causing the water molecules in the food to vibrate and turn to steam. This heats the food, but it also heats the plastic or aluminum container in which the food is placed. This heating can cause serious poisoning to the human body, and the toxins in these various man made containers can be incredibly harmful.

The amount of energy that is able to leak through the front panel of the microwave is insignificant, according to the FDA. The farther away you are from the panel, the less energy you are exposed to. However, despite the many precautions taken to prevent radiation from escaping the inside of a microwave, there is still significantly more radiation in a kitchen where a microwave is operated than in a kitchen without. Microwaves can even travel through walls, which is why it is important to determine if the levels of radiation coming from your microwave oven are harmful or not. The reason that microwaves can be so harmful is that they are simply a type of electromagnetic radiation. The magnetic and electrical energy that move together to make microwaves are nearly as low as radio waves, and these radio waves cause the water molecules in food to vibrate rapidly. Microwaves are designed to break cells apart, and the radiation caused by microwave ovens can make the cells in the human body more susceptible to microorganisms like fungi and viruses.

Cell Phones

Cell phones are used by a large number of people in the world, but what most people don’t know is that they are exposed to radiation every time they use their cell phone. The reason for this is that the radio waves used to transmit cell phone signal are electromagnetic waves similar to microwaves, and these waves have a direct effect on the parotid gland.

The parotid gland is similar to the salivary glands, and it is located directly next to the spot where most people hold their cell phone. A surprising increase in parotid gland cancer has been linked to the use of cellular phones, as there was no increase in cancer in either the sublingual and submandibular salivary glands. These two glands are far enough away from the cell phone that it has little effect on them, but the parotid gland is close enough that the electromagnetic waves of the cellular phone can have a negative effect on them.

The number of cases of parotid gland cancer went up between 1970 and 2006, increasing 400% in the years that cell phones were becoming increasingly popular. A recent study has shown that 20% of the people who suffer from salivary gland tumors are those who are younger than 20, the ones who use their phones the most.

In 2008 a United States Senate report stated:

Your risk increases by 34% if you have been a regular cell phone user for more than 5 years

Your risk increases by 58% if you have made or received more than 5,500 calls total in your lifetime

Your risk increases 49% if you have talked on your cell phone for over 266.3 hours total in your life

Most people don’t know how real the threat of cancer due to radiation exposure from cell phones is, and it is important to realize that the threat of cancer is a real one. It is recommended that you hold your phone away from your head, and most cell phone manufacturers specify a minimum distance of 1 inch in order to avoid radiation poisoning from your cell phone. It’s best to keep your conversations short and use a land line whenever possible.

Be careful of your surroundings and what you are exposing your body to. You should be informed of the risks and then make decisions as you see fit.

Lung Cancer in Non-Smokers

More and more often, I come across cases of nonsmokers who develop lung cancer. My attention is always drawn to news of this nature because my husband passed away at the age of 51 from cancer of the brain and lung. He never smoked a day in his life.

The complacency non-smokers have shared over the years is no longer a viable option. Smokers and non-smokers alike are vulnerable to a disease which is largely incurable. Among patients with this problem, only about 14% live five years after their diagnosis.

In the face of a disease that seems to have neither rhyme nor reason, what can we do to protect ourselves? First, assess your risk for this form of cancer; then take measures to prevent the disease.

What are the risk factors for this type of cancer?

Gender: Unfortunately, women seem to be more vulnerable to this disease. Research has shown that female smokers are more susceptible to the cancer-causing chemicals found in cigarettes. In another study, a gene linked to abnormal lung cancer cell growth was found to be more active in women than in men. It did not matter whether the women smoked or not.

A family history of lung cancer: Evidence suggests that there is a gene which predisposes offspring to develop lung cancer. However, the evidence is far from conclusive as the situation is made difficult by the fact that offspring of smokers have been exposed to a smoking environment since childhood and would therefore have a greater risk for developing the disease.

Scarring from previous lung disease: Scarring in lungs caused by tuberculosis or other lung disease can be a risk factor for this form of lung problem.

Second-hand smoke: Exposure to second-hand smoke has been shown to be a definite risk factor. Your risk increases by 30 percent from daily exposure to second-hand smoke. This is probably the most significant risk factor for lung cancer in non-smokers.

Exposure to radon: Radon is an odorless gas than can seep out of the soil into buildings. Worse yet, the gas can seep from the soil into water near residential communities. Radon has been implicated as a potential cause of lung cancer.

Air pollution: Long-term occupational exposure to diesel exhaust fumes may increase lung cancer risk by 47%. Air pollution in general is a risk factor in the general population. Swedish researchers estimate that as many as 1 in 10 cases of lung cancer may be caused by air pollution in the Swedish capital city, Stockholm.

Past Cancer Treatment: Researchers in Sweden who looked at the medical records of 140,000 breast cancer patients found that there was an increase of lung cancer 5 to 20 years after breast cancer treatment. Suspicion is that radiotherapy in the chest area may have made the lungs more susceptible to the disease.

Estrogen Replacement Therapy: According to researchers at the University of Pittsburgh, estrogen may fuel the growth of non small-cell cancer of the lung.

What preventative measures can we take?

Diet: An apple a day may keep this disease away. A Finnish study suggests that apples not only keep doctors away, but provide protection for the lungs as well. This study found that people who ate the most apples were 58 % less likely to develop this form of cancer. Other studies suggest that this cancer risk is lower among smokers and non smokers who ate at least 5 servings of vegetables and fruits daily.

Beta Carotene: A high intake of beta carotene compounds can lower your cancer risk; however, studies also show that the beta carotene is only effective when the compounds are ingested from whole foods such as peaches, melon, carrots, mangoes, dark leafy vegetables, squash etc. The opposite effect seems to take place with beta carotene supplements. A Finnish study reported 18% more lung cancer cases among heavy smokers who took beta carotene supplements. And a National Cancer Study on the effects of vitamin A and beta carotene was halted because smokers taking the supplements had 28% more cancer than those taking a placebo.

Selenium and Vitamin C: Taking selenium supplements on a long-term basis has been shown to decrease the incidence of lung cancer. In one study, people taking 55-200 mcg of the mineral daily had a 46% lower rate of lung cancer. As well, studies indicate that people who take less than 90 mg of vitamin C on a daily basis may have a 90% higher risk of lung cancer than those who take 140mg or more.

Avoid second-hand smoke and check your house for radon.

There are never guarantees in life, but it makes perfectly good sense to take some preventative measures as these can not only improve your overall quality of health and life but also prevent lung cancer.

Cancer Radioactivity Can Be Measured With a Geiger Counter!

Radioactivity is one of a number of major factors in the causation and development of all cancers. In fact, radiation is so high in cancer patients that it can be detected with a Geiger-Muller counter. This is highly unusual because, since Geiger-Muller counters are not designed to detect radioactivity through the skin, most of the radioactivity emitting from cancer patients goes undetected. The fact that radioactivity is detected in such high amounts in cancer patients (especially over the bones in certain “hot spots”) demonstrates just how high the radioactivity in cancer patients is.

The radioactive element integral to causing and developing all cancers is polonium, a product of the radioactive decay of uranium. Polonium is highly-reactive with a lanthanide element named cerium. Cerium is often found in rubber and plastic. Polonium, cerium and a number of other substances combine to cause all cancers.

Carcinogens in Our Drinking Water?!

Another carcinogen which combines with the cerium end of the polonium-cerium complex is potassium ferrocyanide. This element is a component of common laundry bleach. (Polonium can be found in laundry bleach, too.) Because polonium and potassium ferrocyanide are found in laundry bleach, they are also commonly found in our drinking water. This is because laundry bleach is often (illegally) used as a disinfectant for municipal water supplies. (Cyanide in our drinking water?! Apparently it is added to reduce the amount of corrosion or “scale” that can build up inside of water mains.)

Many municipalities use chlorine gas to disinfect drinking water. This is perfectly fine. However as the water flows through the mains, the chlorine levels diminish. So at the last pumping station before the water reaches the customer, the municipality is allowed to boost the chlorine level using liquid chlorine. The problem is, there are two different types of liquid chlorine. The one which is supposed to be added is food-grade liquid chlorine approved by the National Sanitation Foundation (NSF). The other one is regular laundry bleach. Unfortunately, regular laundry bleach is often added to the water because it is cheaper than NSF bleach, it is much more accessible, and the containers are much easier to handle.

The problem with adding laundry bleach to our drinking water is that it contains a number of carcinogens, including polonium and potassium ferrocyanide. (NSF bleach does not contain potassium ferrocyanide.) This is the reason that cancer rates are so high. In the not-too-distant future it is projected that one out of every two individuals will develop cancer! (All of the carcinogens in laundry bleach is also the reason that skin cancer rates are so high. Bleach is used on our clothes, our bedding, our towels, etc. These in turn contact our skin for extended periods of time, and voila-skin cancer! Skin cancer rates are so high that they are not even counted in regular cancer statistics anymore!)

Another way in which these carcinogens get into our drinking water is via the filters installed in our water systems. Some water filters are also disinfected with laundry bleach rather than NSF bleach prior to sale. Some accumulate laundry bleach from the drinking water after they are installed and then slowly release it back into the water. Even if the municipality were to correct the bleach problem, the filters would still contaminate the water.

Other Ways That Radioactivity Enters Our Bodies

Another way in which radioactive polonium can get into our bodies is via metal amalgam tooth fillings. Metal amalgam fillings typically contain up to 40 different elements. One of the elements allowed by the government to be included is radioactive uranium. When uranium decays, one of its by-products is polonium. This polonium locked into our tooth fillings is a constant source of radioactivity, which can perpetuate any cancers we may already have or help to create new ones.

Other sources of radioactivity in our mouths are porcelain and other dental composites. Apparently the government allows radioactive elements to be included in these in order to allow them to show up better on x-ray scans. The radioactivity also allows them to phosphoresce (glow) like our natural teeth do.

On a cautionary note one should not allow his dentist to remove his metal amalgam fillings by drilling them out of his teeth. This is because the action of the dentist’s drill can embed radioactive particles in the soft tissues of the mouth. From there those radioactive particles can also perpetuate any cancers we may already have or help to create new ones. You can learn how to identify radioactive tooth fillings and have your dentist safely remove them from your mouth. You can also learn how to locate radioactive particles in the soft tissues of the mouth and have your dentist safely remove them if the amalgam fillings have already been drilled out of your teeth.

Virtually everyone these days is inundated with radioactivity. In addition to the above-mentioned sources, we can also pick it up from many of the foods and beverages we ingest because radioactive drinking water is used to process many of them. We can also pick up radioactivity from radon gas. This typically enters our buildings through the cracks or holes in our foundations or via water pumped into our houses from drilled water wells. (A lot of radon gas is inhaled as people shower with radon-contaminated water.)

Our Bodies Have a Mechanism for Removing Radioactivity

Fortunately, our bodies have a mechanism for removing radioactivity from them. Unfortunately, radioactivity instantly depletes our immune systems of one of the essential supplements they need in order to remove radioactivity whenever they come into contact with it. However by ingesting ample amounts of this supplement and others, we can optimize our immune systems to remove all radioactivity. You can learn how to accomplish this.


We could greatly reduce cancer rates or eliminate cancer altogether if bleach manufacturers would stop adding potassium ferrocyanide to bleach; if municipalities would stop adding laundry bleach to drinking water; if water filter manufacturers would stop disinfecting their filters with laundry bleach; if dentists would stop installing radioactive dental supplies in our mouths; and if we would prevent radon gas from entering our homes. If we were to accomplish each of these goals, we could go a long way toward eliminating cancer before cancer rates reach 100%!
